Boat Power Usage Audit
Understanding your vessel's electrical load is the first step in designing a reliable power system. This calculator helps estimate your daily energy usage based on the equipment you run onboard-giving you a starting point for battery sizing, charging requirements, and overall system design.
What Is a Power Audit?
A power audit is a detailed breakdown of how much energy your boat uses over a 24-hour period.

We look at:
-
Every electrical device onboard
-
How long each item runs per day
-
Peak loads vs continuous loads
-
Charging sources (alternator, solar, shore, generator)

From this, we calculate your daily energy consumption (Ah or Wh) and design a system that supports it reliably.

Why It Matters
Without a power audit, systems are often:
-
Undersized → batteries drain too quickly
-
Oversized → unnecessary cost and weight
-
Poorly balanced → charging sources can’t keep up

A proper audit ensures:
-
Reliable power at anchor
-
Longer battery life
-
Optimized charging performance
-
A system tailored to your actual boating style
Power Usage Audit
The link below will take you to a Google sheets page where you can create your own power usage audit for your own boat. This will be a copy so feel free to edit or add equipment as you see fit.
